Wearable Sculpture by Bill Farr

Fine art jewelry in silver, exotic woods, stones, and gems — each piece is an original, hand crafted, one-of-a-kind work of art!

Why we call it “wearable sculpture”...

It is tempting to call the work of Bill Farr “jewelry” because it’s certainly serves that function.

But using common words to describe something that doesn’t really fit into the common meaning of those words, can be a little bit problematic.

The word “jewelry,” for example, brings up certain pre-conceived images in most people’s minds.

Jewelry also tends to be evaluated by how big the “rock” is in the setting, or how many gems are encrusted in precious metal, rather than valued by the level of artistic design.

That’s not to say beauty isn’t an important factor in traditional jewelry, because it certainly is, and there are many stunningly beautiful pieces that feature precious gems.

In those types of pieces, however, the value of the materials tend to be “the point” and the overriding component in the value of the piece.

In the case of Bill Farr’s jewelry, the overriding value is in the design.

That doesn’t mean the materials used in Bill Farr’s pieces aren’t exotic and precious — because they are — it’s just that the materials aren’t the point of the piece, like a diamond would be in a ring.

Bottom line is, Bill’s “jewelry” are mini sculptures that you can also wear. Which makes them an interesting dual-purpose item — fine art you can hang on the wall (they look great in a shadow box!), or wear.

By the way, if you do choose to actually wear these pieces out in public be prepared to attract some attention and receive lots of compliments. This has been thoroughly tested — wearing a piece of Bill Farr jewelry has it’s privileges and advantages!

Enjoy!

Artistically yours,

Jeff Farr
